Arts Magnet Film and Video Club Join Dallas iMedia
30 members of the Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet Film and Video Club joined Dallas iMedia youth member ranks this month. The students had an exciting round table discussion about what programs they would like to work on individually and as groups. The majority of the subjects stayed within the realm of public service/informative videos. Substance abuse, teen pregnancy and self-mutilation or “cutting” themes dominated the list. Other students were interested in the entertainment aspect of video production.
After a tour of the facilities, the Booker T. kids gathered in the studio for a quick lesson on directing, camera operation and set design before diving into an impromptu talk show. The group hit the ground running and did a fantastic job. The topic of the first show was “What is it like Going to Booker T.” The host and guest found it to be a topic of unlimited conversation and opened it up to questions from the studio audience. The audience, made up of members of the film club, shot back with questions about admissions, cluster groups and the school’s effects on student’s futures.
The group then rotated positions to give everyone a chance to do the different jobs involved in studio production. The second show was titled “Is Brittany Spears a Good Parent.” The conclusion was a resounding “No.” Ms. J., the groups sponsor, said that the group had a great time and are very excited about the partnership with iMedia. The kids wasted no time and have set up the first studio shoot date for a 30-minute, bi-weekly program about the activities at Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet.
